SC Riding – Day 4

Two rides today. A 2.5hr hill ride in the morning. A 1.5 hour recovery ride in the afternoon. We climbed up to a smaller service road north of Salem, that has a final 3km kick of around 14%. The view from the top was awesome, the descenting was fun, the climbing was a little rough! Coming back down we went over 80 kph on a couple of the of the descents.

SC Riding – Day 3

Once again, sunny, and even warmer. A split day today. A fast, hilly, 55km ride in the morning, then 2 hours of hiking in the afternoon to stretch out the legs and get out of that cycling position. The woods around here are a pleasent change. Lots of different flora and fauna. The local flowers and anole lizards are certainly not something we see much of around home.

SC Riding – Day 2

Another beautiful day down here. 3.5 hours, 75km exploring the foothills of Oconee county in the area of Oconee Station Historical Site. Lots of beautifully paved rolling roads with smooth pavement and no traffic. Just the occasional dog to work your sprint!

Riding in South Carolina – Day 1

Well, its pretty nice down here! After driving for 15 hours yesterday, through snowstorms in Pennsylvania, it was cool but very sunny here. After getting settled in, we went for a 2.5 hour shake-down ride around Salem to get the legs moving and the wheels turning after all the time in the car. Salem is in the foothills, so no big climbs, but lots of rolly hills! My new bike – one of the full carbon prototypes – feels great so far. Not too stiff, comfortable, light and fast decending.
