Riding 3 Stages
We finally made it out to 3 Stage for a ride yesterday. Well, it was worth the trip. Good technical trails, good descending, good climbing - all in one ride. We were out for around 3:30 hours and still left a lot of ground to cover on the next trip. Here is where we rode:
I was riding my True North Cycles custom 29er singlespeed, 34:18 gearing, with a WTB Weirwolf 2.55 on the front and a Geax Seguaro 2.2 on the rear. Tire pressures were 24psi front, 27psi rear. The tires were a good choice on the dry ground. A little more pressure might have been good - lots of rim contacting the ground, though no pinch flats!

King City Race
It was a fun race this last Wednesday at King City. It was the singlespeed event of the Superfly race series at King City. There were around 50 riders overall, and around 25 singlespeeders, including a number of women I haven’t seen out before! The race course was a short, fun 5km loop of mainly singletrack with one switchback climb and one short punchy climb. The race format was as many laps as you could start get in during 45 minutes. Adam was there as well, and apparently we dicided to run a rematch of Buckwallow. On the first lap, Adam and I were sitting comfortably in the lead group when I totally sketched out a simple right hand corner, washed out the front wheel and ground my elbow along the ground. Adam and a bunch of riders went by while I was deciding that I wasn’t bleeding TOO badly, then back on the bike and chasing. I was back on Adam by the start of the third lap. Half way through this lap, Adam slides out on a left hand corner and I ride by…Buckwallow all over again! All in all, it was a great race and a good crowd. I’m glad we made it out. I was riding my True North Cycles custom 29er singlespeed, 34:18 gearing, with a WTB Weirwolf 2.55 on the front and a Geax Seguaro 2.2 on the rear. Tire pressures were 24psi front, 27psi rear. Setup seemed good, although I did slide out the front tire badly. I think the Nanorapters at around 25psi work better in this concrete-like dry hardpack with a coating of dust.

Superfly Racing Single Speed Festivus
It turns out the Superfly King City race this Wednesday has been upgraded into a full on single speed Festivus. Singlespeeders get in free, and a free BBQ for all. The race is sponsored by Misfit Psycles, and should be a good time. We’re going to try to make it out - I’m not sure how long it takes to get from Kitchener to King City in rush hour, but we should be there by the BBQ at least! Here is the info:
For Immediate Full Release: Superfly Racing Single Speed Festivus!
————————————————————-
On Wednesday July 25, 2007 CHICO’s wee sibling SUPERFLY, will be hosting a Single Speed Night at the KING CITY TRAILS.
In conjunction with the newly minted Wednesday weekly series SUPERFLY will be turning the spotlight on to those less fortunate riders who are forced (out of necessity, poverty, simplemindedness or even technological ignorance) to ride with only one speed…this event is not a registered charity even, however, if you would like to help these poor souls, MISFITPSYCLES will gladly pass your excess cash on as it sees fit.
Yes there will still be the ‘normal’ race categories and stuff, hell there will even be a BBQ FREE FOR ALL…additionally…everyone who shows to race/ride on a single speed will be granted a full and complete pardon from the normal entry fees! That is an excellent value.
There will be prizes, there may be dancing, there might even be a Sean toss…so tell your friends.
A prestigious brand of single speeds will be available (in limited numbers) for demo rides during the race…email in advance and bring your pedals.
I figure if we can get enough True North Cycles riders out to the BBQ, we can eat poor Peter from Misfit into bankruptcy!
