Energrow Product Shoot

This past weekend, I was out at Energrow to take product photographs for them. Energrow started from a local farm looking at ways to reduce their operating costs. They now manufacture and sell a small scale vegetable oil press – pictured above. With this press, farmers can grow oil seeds (soy, canola, etc.) and press them on the farm to produce oil that they can burn in diesel engines – tractors, generators, trucks, etc. The byproduct from the pressing is a high energy meal that they can feed to their livestock. This cuts the farmer’s expenses and reduces their dependence on fossil fuels – very cool.

Mini-Vacation
Eva has been taking some time off around Canada Day, and we’ve been having a great little mini-vacation. Starting last Wednesday, we went for a three hour fast paced ride at Guelph Lakes. Thursday, we spent the day at Inverhuron Provincial Park on Lake Huron. This is a small park with a nice, curved sandy beach. It was hot, the water was cool, and the place was deserted – most excellent. We spent the day swimming and lying in the sun. Friday we spent an intensive day doing absolutely nothing. Saturday, we went to the Toronto Zoo with Eva’s siblings, nieces and nephews. I’ll post pictures. More biking of Sunday — 3.5 hours riding around Guelph to Eden Mills and back up to Guelph Lakes. Tomorrow, we are planning to drive up to Collingwood to ride in Three Stage. Then, unfortunately, back to work.

What am I Riding these Days?
I though I would post a picture of the bike I’m spending the most time on these days, as it is my favorite bike! The bike is my custom True North cyclocross bicycle. The frame is Columbus Cyber steel, and is just magical to ride, both on road and off. The frame is set up with Campy 1010 long angled dropouts, so you can ride it fixed, single or with gears. I don’t think I’ve ever had gears on it though. Currently the bike is built up with a FSA gossamer crank, Dura-Ace octalink BB, True Temper Alpha-Q CX fork, Paul’s touring Canti’s, FSA SLK seatpost, Selle Italia SLR GelFlow saddle, FSA headset, Ritchey stem, TTT Morpheus Handlebar and some old Chorus Ergopower shifters that I gutted the shift mechanisms out of for some ultra-light brake levers. The wheels are just what was lying around – a surly fixed/free rear hub laced to an Open Pro rim and a Campy Zonda front. The bike is set up fixed with a 42:16 gear, which seems to be good for just about everything around here. I’m running Panaracer Pasala 700x32C tires, which are awesome. They might be slower than 700x23C tires, but not enough so as I can tell, and at 60 PSI they are far more comfortable, and handle gravel with no problems.
