Description (in previous post) of bike and components.

Just love this bike — two rides to-date and two thumbs up!

Report on 1st ride on new enduro 29′er MTB

Tonight, I took my brand-new True North Cycles enduro 29′er mountain bike out for its first ride at Twin Ponds (also known as Puslinch). The bike handled awesome — I can’t even begin to express how excited I am about this bike!

Pictures of the bike were taken today, and I will post some in the next couple of days.

General description: custom handcrafted True North Cycles frame out of OX Platinum tubing; Pace Cycles RC29 80mm 29er suspension fork; XTR disc brakes, cranks and hubs; new bushnell EBB; Chris King headset; can be run as single-speed or geared (current set-up single-speed)

My frame is done — no pictures yet of the completed frame … but here are some pictures in the middle of the process:

My New Carbon 29′er Single-speed

My new True North Cycles carbon 29′er single-speed is ready.  Pictures of my new bike are posted on Dave’s blog page, ‘Carbon 29′er Singlespeed‘.  I took the bike out for a test ride last night, and it is awesome - it climbs and corners really well, and handles nicely in technical play.  :)

29′er with Road Cassette at Twin Ponds

I had an awesome time tonight chasing the boys around on my 29′er at Twin Ponds (Pusclinch) - one of my very favourite places to ride. Finally, I’ve started getting in some fast trail riding! :) The trails were super dry - so much so that areas were quite loose.

Here’s a photo of my 29′er:

I was looking forward to the ride all day, and would have liked to stay out longer but it started getting dark. :|

One more thing …

Training surprises can be a good thing, I guess.  :)  I’ve come to expect training surprises once and a while. In the first section of single-track, I thought that my legs were still sluggish feeling from last week - oh no! Then, in the second section of single-track, I started getting suspicious - hmmm, someone has changed my cassette. In one of the final sections of single-track, Dave asked whether I noticed that a road cassette had been placed on my bike - yup, I did! Guess some force training was one of tonight’s goals. It was a 12-23. The guys had a good laugh waiting to see how long it would be until I noticed and said something! :)

Red Rocket

My favourite bike is my custom True North road-bike. Maybe it’s because it’s light-weight, candy-apple red, decked-out, and feels and handles just right! :) I’ve wanted a full-custom *red* road-bike for so long, and am super happy with my True North!!! Red makes ya go faster you know! ;)

True North Road Bike

The frame is made of True Temper S3 tubing, with a frame weight of just over 3 lbs. The bike is outfitted with a Campy Chorus groupo, hand-built wheels (Sun Venus rims, Campy Record 28H hubs, and DT Revolution spokes), an Alpha Q carbon fork, and FSA SLK carbon crank-set and seat-post. The fit and performance of my bike are enhanced by the women’s specific handle-bar (3T eva) and saddle (Terry Damselfly).

I love this bike for long road rides. I’m definitely sold on custom frames for road riding - perfect fit makes all the difference to enjoying hours and hours in the saddle. :)

Pink True North Track Bike

This is my track bike! It sees regular use at the Forest City Velodrome in London Ontario.

True North Pink Track Bike

My bike handles great, but my most favourite thing about this bike is the reaction it gets from the young girls who are part of the Velo-Kids program at the Forest City Velodrome. The girls’ excitement about my pink track bike is contageous. My favourite story is one of a young girl dragging her dad over to see my bike, and saying, ‘Dad, look, they do come in pink!’
